Career
Claudia Fernandini is an experienced lawyer, admitted to the Lima Bar; she is a member of the Inter American Federation of Attorneys (IABA/FIA), the Peruvian Association of Intellectual Property (APPI), the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM), the International Intellectual Property Association - AIPPI, and the International Trademark Association (INTA), and serves on the board of the Association of Intellectual Property Firms (AIPF). She also holds master’s degrees in both Business Administration and Innovation Project and Product Development. She broadens her educational background by adding specializations in technology scouting, venture capital, entrepreneurship, and innovation, among other topics.
Claudia is co-founder of Mertz Perú. Intellectual Property, technology transfer, technology scouting, and innovation are three of Claudia's main areas of expertise. She assists businesses in developing plans to protect their innovations, creations, and brand names, resulting in powerful intellectual property assets. She has substantial experience with trade secret protection and works on technology scouting and competitive intelligence projects on a regular basis.
Claudia is fluent in Spanish, English and German, with basic understanding of French, having had an international upbringing and professional experience, including Austria, Canada, Mexico, Peru, Venezuela. This unique background combined with her multidisciplinary education, and more than 20 years of experience, allow Claudia to address complex issues with tenacity, efficiency and sensibility. She communicates effectively with governments, corporations, researchers, entrepreneurs, and universities. She quickly identifies opportunities and challenges across sectors, connecting experience, knowledge, and contacts.
As a result of Claudia’s experience, her multiple interests, her passion for education, and active membership in various associations, she has come to grow an extensive network of contacts, in Peru and overseas, that spans both private and public sector, academia, and civil society organizations, across gender, age and nationality.
Claudia is a professor at the University Cayetano Heredia and a published author who has written multiple papers as well as books both solo and with others. She has also led consulting projects, formed consortiums, managed governmental grants, and coordinated advisory teams and participants.
Claudia has been consistently ranked and recognized in international rankings for her outstanding work in IP.
