Practice Areas

Throughout her career, Caroline Krauss has acted as a fierce advocate for individuals in all matrimonial and family law matters, from pre-nuptial agreements to custody trials. In particular, Caroline is often sought after for guidance to protect the interests of clients whose legal issues are complicated by their significant assets and heightened public profiles.

Appreciating the intimate relationship between lawyer and client in matrimonial and family law matters, Caroline co-founded KSTM as a boutique firm with the goal to offer counsel that is both caring and candid. Clients and peers describe Caroline as a great strategist who is “completely committed and devoted to her clients,” with one source noting that “she knows when the time is right to fight and when the time is right to resolve. But when the fight is chosen, she fights like a lion.”

Her frequent work includes pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements; custody, parental access, and ancillary parenting issues; frequently working collaboratively with mental health professionals; divorce negotiation and litigation; and equitable distribution, spousal and child support, and related ancillary issues.

A trained mediator, Caroline seeks alternatives to disruptive litigation wherever possible, and regularly resolves marital disputes. When litigation is unavoidable, however, she provides aggressive advocacy in the courts. Among other successes, she secured a landmark decision in New York’s highest court that overturned longstanding prejudicial rules toward same-sex parents in child custody matters.

Career

For more than 25 years, Caroline has focused exclusively on matrimonial and family law, earning widespread praise in the area, earning recognition as: a top-tier lawyer by Chambers High Net Worth for Family/Matrimonial Law in New York, an Elite Boutique Trailblazer (The National Law Journal), a Best Lawyer for Family Law in New York, a Distinguished Leader (New York Law Journal), a New York Super Lawyer in Family Law, and a Divorce, Trust & Estates Trailblazer (The National Law Journal), among other accolades.

Before launching KSTM, Caroline co-chaired the matrimonial and family law practice at Blank Rome, which under her leadership operated the largest such practice group in the nation.

On a pro bono basis, Caroline serves as a mediator in the Neutral Evaluation Program operated by the Supreme Court, Civil Branch, New York County, New York. She is a member of the American Bar Association’s Family Law Section and is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation, an honor reserved for the top 1% of attorneys.

Caroline graduated from Brooklyn Law School (J.D., 1991) and Ithaca College (B.S., 1986).
