Practice Areas
Carlos concentrates his practice on international litigation and arbitration in the areas of financial services, design and construction, telecommunications, and transnational disputes involving parties from multiple jurisdictions. He has substantial experience with multilingual and multicultural teams, which provides a strategic advantage in dealing with parties and evidence from different legal systems, especially in Latin America and the Caribbean. Carlos also represents parties in international arbitrations in several industries. He has served as counsel in a wide range of domestic and international litigation and arbitration matters. Carlos also has extensive experience in international corporate investigations and Special Litigation committees. He also has experience under the UNCITRAL Rules and the International Bar Association Rules.
Career
Carlos Concepción has launched Concepción Global (previously Concepción Disputes), an international law firm with a global presence and strategic offices in Miami and Madrid. Carlos acts as an advocate and arbitrator in international commercial and investor-state cases. Before that, he was the Chair of Shook, Hardy & Bacon’s Global Arbitration practice group for four years and previously a Global Disputes Partner at Jones Day.
Education: Carlos holds a B.S. magna cum laude (1979) and a J.D. with honours and Order of the Coif (1982), from Florida State University and the University of Florida.
Professional Memberships
Carlos is licensed in Florida and Texas and is a member of numerous international arbitration organizations, including a Board Member of the Miami International Arbitration Society, International Chamber of Commerce, and The Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution. He is also Board Certified in International Litigation and Arbitration by The Florida Bar and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), which is the highest level of arbitration training and experience recognized by that institution. Carlos is also a Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators – CCA, one of the world’s most prestigious alternative dispute resolution professional organisations.
