Career
Carla is recognized as a leading tax lawyer by Chambers Canada, The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, International Tax Review’s Women in Tax Leaders, and International Tax Review Highly Regarded. Carla is well known within the Canadian pension, public sector, sovereign wealth, investment board and fund community. She has also supported some of Canada’s largest real estate and infrastructure funds with their investments and fund structuring.
Carla is known as a pragmatic and innovative advisor by her clients, who often hire her to solve issues others have not been able to solve. Her practice encompasses all aspects of income, land transfer, and other non-sales tax matters that arise in corporate and commercial transactions. She provides end-to-end tax support to her clients on M&A transactions (including due diligence, modelling, structuring, and reviewing, drafting, and negotiating legal agreements) as well as pre- and post-closing and ongoing advisory matters (including designing long-term and short-term executive compensation plans, addressing tax governance and tax related regulatory matters, etc.).
Prior to joining A&M, Carla was the head of KPMG Law’s M&A Tax Law and Pensions and Tax Exempts practice in Canada, and a partner of both KPMG Canada and KPMG Law LLP.
