Ben has a broad commercial practice. His cases span the areas of commercial litigation (both onshore and offshore), particularly financial services, insurance, civil fraud, Chancery and property-related litigation.
In the field of professional liability, Ben has substantial experience of claims involving financial, legal, insurance, construction and valuation professionals. He acts for claimants and defendants and has appeared in several multi-party disputes. Ben also accepts instructions to act as expert or arbitrator, particularly in connection with professional liability or insurance disputes.
Reported cases include Halborg v. Halborg [2022] EWHC 1621 (Ch), Williams v. Merrick [2021] EWHC 2417 (QB), Copeland v. Bank of Scotland [2020] EWHC 1441 (QB), Walsh v. Redmayne-Bentley [2019] EWHC 2761 (Ch), Kandola v. Mirza Solicitors [2015] PNLR 19, Barclays Bank v. Grant Thornton [2015] 1 CLC 180, Newcastle International Airport v. Eversheds [2014] 1 WLR 3073 and Thompson v. Foy [2010] 1 P&CR 16.
Career
Called to the Bar in 2005. Formerly corporate financier at NM Rothschild & Sons. Appointed a Deputy District Judge in 2013 (Business & Property Courts, Companies and Insolvency specialist authorisations) and a Recorder in 2022. Ben is also an advocacy trainer for Lincoln’s Inn, trustee of a legal education charity and he has been a BSB committee member.
