Benjamin Hughes is a full time independent arbitrator with The Arbitration Chambers in Singapore and Fountain Court Chambers in London, and adjunct professor at the National University of Singapore Faculty of Law. He has been appointed in well over 100 arbitrations around the world with several billion USD in dispute.
Prior to his practice as an independent arbitrator, Ben practiced international arbitration as counsel with Shearman & Sterling in the US and Singapore, and was the founding co-head of the international dispute resolution practice at one of Korea's largest full service law firms.
Ben trained in both the civil and common law traditions, first at Seoul National University (all coursework in Korean) and then at New York University School of Law. He later returned to Seoul National University as a member of the faculty.
Ben's practice encompasses a broad range of commercial disputes, including intellectual property, agency and distributorships, corporate governance and shareholder agreements, construction and engineering, shipping and shipbuilding.
A resident of Asia for over 25 years, Ben studied East Asian history at Harvard University and has lived in Korea, China, Taiwan and Singapore.
