Ben has an enviable practice which principally involves substantial disputes in the fields of insurance, commercial and professional liability. He is in great demand for the clarity of his advice, quality of his written work, and success as an active trial and appellate advocate. He has a loyal following and strong reputation in the market. Commentators regularly commend his ability to communicate with clients clearly and commercially, and remark that he is a pleasure to work with – something he strives for with every instruction he receives. He combines a down to earth approach with academic vigour. Ben increasingly acts as an arbitrator (particularly of insurance disputes), and he is an ARIAS (UK) panel member.
Having been awarded a Double First in Law by Cambridge University (Trinity College), Ben completed a Masters in Law at the University of Virginia, USA. He then practised in New York with Sullivan & Cromwell and was admitted to the New York Bar. Returning to the UK he was the top ranked student in Bar Finals, and was called to the English Bar in 1996. He took silk in 2012. He has been admitted to the Bar of the Cayman Islands (ad hoc).
