Anthony Metzer QC practises primarily in crime, Claimant civil actions against the police, immigration, inquests and defamation. He has been highly recommended as a leading silk as he has been for many years in the 2021 edition of Chambers and Partners in the categories of Crime (Band 3), Police Law – mainly Claimant (Band 2) and Immigration (Band 3).
Anthony is distinguished in criminal defence work with considerable appellate and Privy Council experience. He has a substantial criminal practice, principally in murder and manslaughter, serious sexual and drug offences. He also specialises in fraud and money laundering allegations. He also has considerable experience in State and private prosecutions.

In immigration law, Anthony practises primarily at appellate level. His growing reputation as leading Counsel is reflected in the landmark case of Secretary of State for the Home Department v Banger – C-89/17;  UKUT 00194(IAC).
Anthony has been instructed for families on major inquests. One became the subject of a BBC Panorama programme concerning the death of an Asian man where excessive police force was used. Other notable inquests involved the death of a 13-year old girl following a high-speed police chase, a suspicious death in Germany which attracted international media coverage and an on-going case involving a death in prison of a vulnerable young man.
