Criminal Defense
Anne Chapman is a leading white-collar criminal defense attorney with more than 20 years of experience representing individuals and corporations in complex federal and state criminal and regulatory matters. A former Assistant Federal Defender, she is trusted by clients for her strategic judgment, trial readiness, and ability to manage matters involving significant legal, financial, and reputational risk.
Anne’s practice focuses on high-stakes white-collar criminal defense, including fraud-related matters (bank, wire, mail, consumer, and mortgage fraud), money laundering, identity theft, privacy and data-related offenses, firearms and export-related allegations, and criminal intellectual-property cases. She also has substantial experience handling sensitive national security and terrorism-related matters, including cases governed by the Classified Information Procedures Act (CIPA).
Clients regularly retain Anne at the earliest stages of government scrutiny to guide them through parallel civil, criminal, and regulatory proceedings, including False Claims Act matters and consumer fraud actions. She has extensive experience defending clients in investigations and enforcement actions brought by the Department of Justice, Securities and Exchange Commission, Internal Revenue Service, Arizona Corporation Commission, and State Attorneys General.
In addition to her defense practice, Anne advises corporations, executives, and boards on regulatory risk and compliance, conducts internal investigations for corporations and Special Litigation Committees, and provides anti-corruption and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act counseling. She is frequently selected for matters requiring independent judgment and discretion.
Anne has significant trial experience, including serving as defense counsel in one of the most consequential federal terrorism prosecutions in U.S. history, a capital case arising from the September 11, 2001 attacks. She continues to handle high-profile national security matters, including death-penalty litigation before the Guantanamo Bay Military Commissions.
She serves as Co-Chair of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers’ White Collar Crime Committee and on the Board of the Women in White Collar Criminal Defense Association.
