Andrea Gonsalves

Andrea has a broad litigation practice, with particular emphasis in civil and commercial litigation and administrative and regulatory law. Andrea’s extensive litigation experience includes shareholder disputes, oppression applications, appeals, and judicial review applications, defamation and media law, intellectual property disputes, employment law and professional discipline matters. She provides practical and strategic advice to clients on complex issues that arise at the intersection of many of those areas. She also litigates public and constitutional law cases. Andrea represents clients in all levels of court in Ontario, in the Federal Courts, and in a wide variety of tribunals and other administrative decision-making settings.

Andrea has a particular interest in the application of civil and regulatory law to online activities, including online defamation, digital privacy, and liability for internet- and social media-based harassment and other harms. She is often retained as lead counsel in significant defamation trials and appeals, and has successfully argued several anti-SLAPP motions.

Andrea’s practice involves significant advisory work. She advises various adjudicative tribunals as independent legal counsel. She conducts and advises on independent investigations, and frequently advises regulators and private entities on regulatory and enforcement matters.
