Clinical Negligence and Inquests
Ana began her practice as a common law practitioner, quickly specialising in clinical negligence and inquests.
She has developed an extensive and varied clinical negligence practice relative to her call, dealing with high value and complex cases including those involving catastrophic brain injury, amputations, and cauda equina. Claimants and Defendants, including NHS Resolution and the Government Legal Panel, regularly instruct her. Ana also sits as an Assistant Coroner for Birmingham and Solihull, which she has found invaluable given the frequent overlap between medical deaths and clinical negligence claims. Ana has conduct of high value claims, in excess of £4,000,000.
As well as clinical negligence work Ana frequently undertakes complex inquest work (both Jamieson and Middleton inquests) including jury inquests, predominately on behalf of NHS Trusts and private healthcare providers, either freestanding or those linked to clinical negligence claims, or the government legal department for the MOJ or MOD. Ana has been instructed as Counsel to the inquest and been involved in Judicial review proceedings arising out of inquests. In 2020 Ana was appointed to the CEDR panel as a mediator and to the Attorney General Regional Civil Panel. Ana sits on the Coroners’ Society Law review committee, which is predominately populated by Senior Coroners, and is the lead governor for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
