His clinical negligence and industrial disease practice involves a wide range of cases but with particular emphasis on difficult and technical issues . He acts for both Claimants and Defendants . He engages with leading academics in seminars and publications giving him clear insight in developments in legal thinking.
Career
Charles began his career as a general common law practitioner which gave him very extensive advocacy experience which is now very unusual for a specialist practitioner . For the past 2 decades he has concentrated on clinical negligence and industrial disease litigation . He has been instructed in many leading case including Maguire v Harland and Wolff, Barker v Corus, Williams v University of Birmingham, Reaney v N Staffs , and XX v Whittington Hospitals . He undertakes significant pro bono work including the HPT litigation . He is registered for Public Access .
Publications
Charles has been published in a number of leading academic journals , most recently in 2020 in the Journal of Patient Safety and Risk Management " Medical Accidents : A Socratic Resolution ? " co-authored with Prof Gus Baker and Sam Irving and in 2023 an article on Epidemiological evidence in a special causation issue of the University of Western Australia Law Review , co-written with Per Laleng .
