Alvaro Gutierrez is a highly regarded lawyer with extensive experience in Life Sciences, Intellectual Property, and International Trade. He advises national and multinational clients across pharmaceutical, biotechnology, cosmetics, medical devices, food & beverage, and agrochemical industries, representing clients in complex cross-border matters before national authorities, the Court of Justice of the Andean Community, and other international forums.

His practice covers the full spectrum of sanitary regulatory matters, from product registrations and market access strategies to compliance, enforcement, and high-stakes administrative and judicial litigation. He is particularly experienced in complex cases involving the intersection of Life Sciences and Intellectual Property rights, as well as regulatory barriers to trade.

Alvaro has served in prominent positions in international organizations, including as Secretary of the Commission of the Andean Community at the General Secretariat of the Andean Community and at the Cartagena Agreement Board. He was an active member of Peru’s negotiating teams for the Intellectual Property chapters of the Free Trade Agreements with the United States, the European Union, and in the negotiations for the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA).

Alvaro holds a law degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), has completed specialized studies in pharmaceutical marketing at the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), and is currently enrolled in the Master’s in Intellectual Property and Pharmaceutical Law at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (2024–2025).
