Practice Areas

Alexander specialises in commercial dispute resolution, civil fraud and asset tracing, and insolvency disputes.

Alexander is a fluent Russian speaker and he has a particular expertise in Russian and CIS disputes. His recent CIS cases include National Bank Trust v Yurov, a nine-week Commercial Court trial of a Russian banking fraud claim for US$900 million; AOS Holdings v Korotkov, a US$150 million Russian cryptocurrency dispute; and VTB Bank v Laptev where, acting as sole counsel, he secured the dismissal of a cross-border second bankruptcy petition for £25 million for lack of jurisdiction, based on disputed Russian law expert evidence.

Most of Alexander’s cases have an international element, often involving jurisdiction challenges, conflicts of laws issues, and claims brought under foreign law. He regularly appears in applications for freezing orders and other injunctive relief, in cross-border and domestic cases.
