Alexander Gong is a senior partner of Fenxun Shanghai office. Mr. Gong heads the firm’s China Real Estate Group.
He has over 20 years of practice experience in wide scope of Chinese real estate matters, ranging from share and asset deal acquisitions, joint ventures, greenfield and brownfield investments and development projects, senior and mezzanine financings, office building anchor tenancies, flagship retail store leases, built-to-suit leases, hotel management agreements and branded residence licensing, construction and fit-out contracts, advice on real estate regulatory, insolvency and dispute matters. With his legal qualification and working experience in the US, Mr. Gong also leads Baker McKenzie overseas offices to assist Chinese companies in their outbound real estate investments.
Mr. Gong regularly speaks at external and internal conferences on cross-border property transactions, green buildings and other Chinese real estate legal matters. He is the co-editor of the Joint Operation Office's real estate publications such as "PRC Legal DD and Opinions Series" and "China Housing/Leasing Reform: News Select".

Acted for a US private equity fund in its joint venture, investment in and subsequent disposal of an office retail mixed-use building in the Zhongguancun area of Beijing.
Acted for a Hong Kong listed real estate developer in the sale of majority interest in a large-scale office and retail mixed-use development in the CBD area of Shanghai.
Advised a Dutch pension management company on its launch of a new Asia Pacific healthcare platform in partnership with a large healthcare-dedicated investment firm.
Advised a US private equity fund on the establishment of a joint venture logistics investment platform and subsequent acquisitions development and operation of logistics assets in multiple cities in China.
Advised a Sovereign Wealth Fund in Singapore on the form of an ever green fund with a Chinese developer and subsequent investment and operations by such fund of residential projects in multiple cities in China.
Advised an US invested theme park resort in Shanghai on various real estate matters involving theme park, hotels, RD&E and dorm facilities.
Advised a US based retailer on various real estate matters involving retail, office and mixed use facilities in multiple cities in China.
Acted for international tenants of various trades on the review, negotiation and execution of offer letters, leases, lease assignments, subleases, lease renewal, and other lease related documents for office, commercial, warehouse and residential properties.
Acted for a Canadian-based luxury hotel operator in the drafting and negotiation of the management agreements for hotel facilities in the entire Asia Pacific region.
Acted for project owners of various trades on the drafting, review, negotiation and execution of award letters, design contracts, construction contracts, EPC or EPCM contracts and other construction related documents for office, commercial, warehouse, hotel, industrial, residential and other properties.
