Alex Hatanaka has extensive experience in commercial and civil litigation, specializing in disputes related to the financial and capital markets industries. Alex represents financial institutions, funds and multinationals with emphasis on cross-border and complex commercial litigation, insolvency-related litigation and restructurings and class actions. In addition, Alex has handled regulatory and enforcement actions instituted by the Brazilian Securities Commission and the Central Bank of Brazil. Prior to joining Mattos Filho, Alex has served for nearly a decade in senior positions at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs, where he has managed disputes and enforcement actions, in addition to making decisions in transactions involving such banks. Alex has worked previously at Sidley Austin’s New York office and Peters and Peters in London.
Member of the Turnaround Management Association (TMA), INSOL International and Banking Law Commission of the Brazilian Bar Association, São Paulo Section.
Alex is a frequent lecturer and author of several articles on commercial and corporate law and litigation and arbitration issues published in law journals, magazines and newspapers.
