Aamal Al Abbasi

Career

Aamal has a strong litigation, real estate, corporate and commercial practice. She works closely with the Office of H.R.H. Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister; she handles various legal matters for the Prime Minister’s Office including reviewing MOUs and numerous agreements with international parties.

She has advised numerous local and international entities in relation to Bahrain law with particular emphasis on the Commercial Companies Law, Civil Code, Reorganisation and Bankruptcy Law, Law of Commerce, Central Bank of Bahrain Law and Civil & Commercial Procedures Law.

Aamal led the team responsible for the first and one of the largest cases in Bahrain under Bankruptcy and Reorganization Law. Aamal represented Garmco in $268 million court-led reorganization, including before Court of Cassation, where Aamal successfully challenged the decision of Court of Appeal to reject Garmco’s request to commence court-led reorganization proceedings. This marked the first decision by Court of Cassation in a case raised under Reorganization and Bankruptcy Law. The court ratified the reorganization plan on 31 October 2021.

She has participated in number of meetings set up by the government whereby she provided her views on the application of the said law and possible improvements.
