THE FIRM The firm’s history started in 1900, when Wilkin & Chapman was created by James Whiteley Wilkin and Ben Chapman. Grange Wintringham, with whom the firm merged in 2010, came into being in the 1860s. Cooper & Wright, with whom it merged in 2005, was created in 1880. In a fascinating and complex history where the past has shaped the present, one of the constants is the firm’s core values which places the client at the heart of the firm. Today, Wilkin Chapman is a full service law firm having 6 offices operating out of Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire.

Wilkin Chapman is a modern, forward-thinking organisation whose reputation has been built up over many years. Its aim is to exceed clients’ expectations by providing not just quality legal advice but commercially aware business advice. The firm has made a substantial commitment to quality standards, being the first firm in Lincolnshire to be awarded the Lexcel mark by the Law Society, in 1999. 2015 saw the recoveries department achieve the ISO9001 standard.

With the registered office in Grimsby, the firm has additional offices in Lincoln, Beverley, Louth, Horncastle and Alford.

The firm has over 40 commercial lawyers dealing with corporate and commercial, commercial property, construction, employment and debt recovery for multinational companies, national corporations, local authorities and SMEs across the UK. The firm has the resources to deal with all sizes of transaction and offers levels of expertise comparable to that of city law firms, at less cost.
The recoveries team is seen as a market leader throughout the UK in the field of local authority insolvency debt collection. The public law team deal with over 150 local authorities, as well as police forces including police crime commissioners, and fire authorities, universities and NHS Trusts on aspects including ethics and conduct, governance and constitutions, housing and investigations.
