The history of Sigurjónsson & Thor ehf. begins in 1950. The partners are Valborg Kjartansdóttir and Magnús Haukur Magnússon. Ms Valborg Kjartansdóttir graduated as a lawyer from The University of Iceland in June 1984. In 1985 she started to work at Sigurjónsson & Thor and became a partner in January 1989. She is a member of FICPI, AIPPI, ECTA, Marques, Inta, The Icelandic Bar Association and an overseas member of ITMA and LES. She served on the board of The Association of Icelandic Trademark and Patent Agents as a treasurer 1989-99, from March 2001-02 and as a chairman from 2002-07. Valborg is a European patent attorney and she has frequently commented on changes in the law and/or regulations relating to intellectual property. She has lectured on trademark law at The University of Iceland.

He has, in prior positions, provided legal services to a wide selection of companies, ranging from small business entities to companies listed on the Icelandic Stock Exchange. He also has experience in cross border transactions and the drafting of commercial contracts in Icelandic and English. Previous work in the field of IP/copyright includes advice on unfair competition to companies, advising foreign purchasers of Icelandic motion picture rights, negotiation for Icelandic musicians with foreign agents and publishers and successfully assisting Icelandic individuals with regards to copyright infringement by a major international corporation in the US.
