Firm Overview
Prospect Law specialises in the energy sector. Founded in 2010, it is owned and managed by barristers and solicitors, and is complemented by the input of its own team of technical experts who include economists, FCA accredited insurance professionals, electrical engineers and power grid experts. Prospect Law is seen as a ground-breaking firm with a particularly impressive track record of both contentious and non-contentious work in the energy sector. It has a strong reputation for offering regulatory and development advice in the sector on behalf of governments and private developers, and also for challenging energy regulatory bodies and government departments.
Main Areas of Practice
Renewable Energy has been at the heart of Prospect Law’s work since the firm was first established in 2010. Initially the firm advised on purely legal issues and for that work very quickly won awards for its pioneering and effective approach to development proposals.
Now Prospect Law advises on issues arising across the full range of its multi-disciplinary skillsets including commercial and contract advice, insurance and risk management, economics and financing, grid connections, technical feasibility studies, and a specialist training arm. Clients range from Middle East Governments through to banks, developers and private individuals.
Examples of work we have completed include:
1. Advising on a successful planning application and associated High Court challenge for an Energy from Waste plant in the middle of a City.
2. Advising on the financing of wind and solar farms on mainland Europe using sharia-compliant funds.
3. Advising on the development of cost-effective insurance ‘pools’ for the renewables sector.
4. Advising a Government on the pricing of its renewable energy electricity.
5. Advising a UK solar developer on the development and onward sale to pension funds of various ground based solar facilities across the UK.
