Firm Overview:
Muñiz, Olaya, Meléndez, Castro, Ono & Herrera was founded in 1981. Comprising 280 lawyers, the firm has significant professional experience in all areas of the law and is the largest full-service firm in Peru. The firm was the first — and is probably still the only one — with a quality control and customer service department. This department is in charge of staying in contact with clients to know how satisfied they are with the service they receive.

Main Areas of Practice:

Corporate & M&A:
Both national and foreign clients are supported from the very beginning up to acquisition, merger, spin off, transformation and other business processes while providing all the necessary information related to the regulation and protection of their investment.

Infrastructure, PPP & Works for Taxes:
The firm advises private sector companies and non-financial public agencies on the implementation and enforcement of private investment promotion regulations, guaranteeing the efficacy of their investment in Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), Asset-Related Projects (APs), Works for Taxes (Obras por Impuestos or OXI for its acronym in Spanish), among other schemes.

The members of this area work closely with members of the firm’s accounting services to devise corporate tax strategies, in order to meet the challenge involved in the legal design of its clients’ new business activities and investment projects.

Litigation, Controversies & International Arbitration:
Thanks to the experience and broad knowledge of the firm’s lawyers in substantive and procedural law, they have the aptitude to obtain the best possible outcome in a lawsuit and, eventually, satisfactorily resolve controversies without it being necessary to bring or prosecute judicial or arbitration procedures.

Intellectual Property:
This practice is broad ranging, from advice and registration to distinctive designs and copyright. The attorneys’ expertise is complemented by advanced software systems and an international network of intellectual property rights agents; thereby offering a full warranted service.

Capital Markets & Banking Regulation:
The firm provides legal advice on international security offerings, domestic security offerings, investment fund structuring, listing of companies on the stock exchange (national or foreign companies), broker advice, bank regulation (including the incorporation of banks), financial derivatives, and compliance with money laundering regulations.

Competition, Bureaucratic Barriers & Antidumping:
The firm provides legal advice on free competition investigations. Many of its lawyers have worked for the competition practice group at regulatory entities like INDECOPI, OSIPTEL, the Federal Trade Commission of the United States, which places us in an ideal position to provide proper advice to its clients so that they may avoid contingencies in their projects and commercial contracts.

The firm provides labour advice in general, which includes contract and salary planning, due diligence examinations, health and safety matters, labor intermediation and outsourcing, court proceedings, inspection visits, claims filed with the Peruvian Social Security Institute (EsSALUD), and collective bargaining processes.

International Work:
The firm is a member of the Pacific Rim Advisory Council; an alliance of 30 top-tier law firms, most of which are located in the Pacific Rim; the Ibero-American Compliance Practice Group and Interact Law.

English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish.

The firm’s client platform includes large industrial companies, banks, insurance companies, oil and gas corporations, manufacturers, retailers, IT industries, and supranational institutions conducting cross-border businesses, among others.
