This attitude towards relationships extends to the firm’s own steady, managed growth, which has come from a combination of internal promotions/lateral hires who share our values and a much-praised trainee programme.
PRINCIPAL AREAS OF WORK
Commercial/Intellectual Property: 8%
Real Estate: 16%
Finance & Restructuring: 10%
Corporate:The corporate team provides expertise across all and every corporate finance and M&A area, such as corporate acquisitions and disposals, management buyouts, venture capital, flotations, restructuring, banking and financial services. The firm has a particularly strong presence in the venture capital market and represents a number of private equity and venture capital institutions as well as advising MBO/ MBI management teams. It also has a significant AIM practice and reputation, acting regularly for companies and for nominated advisers and brokers.
Banking & Finance: The banking and finance team advises a variety of bank and non-bank lenders, other institutions and companies on a range of banking and finance matters from domestic and bilateral to syndicated and international loan arrangements encompassing all forms of security and intercreditor arrangements. Reflecting the firm’s broad corporate expertise, a proportion of the team’s work involves the interaction between early stage debt and the various holders of equity whilst the practice extends to mature senior debt issues, refinances and restructurings. Core clients include challenger banks and private equity funds.
Restructuring & Insolvency: The restructuring and insolvency team is active in providing a range of transactional and technical advisory assistance to various client stakeholder groups. These include insolvency practitioners, turnaround practitioners, banks and other lenders, other institutions, trading counterparties and boards of directors. The breadth of work means that the team advises in relation to ‘light’ restructurings and reschedulings in moderately stressed situations through to full-blown insolvency scenarios involving voluntary arrangements, administrations, receiverships and liquidations, often with a need for overarching sensitive tactical input.
Commercial/Intellectual Property: The Commercial/IP team advises across a broad range of commercial and intellectual property issues including commercial contracts, online and digital media, patents, know-how, branding, advertising and reputation management. In addition the team is also experienced in the recruitment and technology sectors advising on commercial contracts as well as software creation, development and exploitation, e-distribution (including to the consumer market), IP rights in software and data, as well as privacy and data protection.
Real Estate: The real estate team looks after existing and new clients’ property needs, taking and granting leases, buying and selling — whether it be for owner occupiers, or investment or development — providing strategic advice and helping them when disputes arise. Recent highlights have included hotel acquisitions, the refinancing of a retail park and the sale of a business park.
Litigation: The litigation team is widely experienced in commercial litigation and arbitration with particular expertise in company/shareholder disputes, contractual disputes, breach of trust and civil fraud. The team’s expertise covers interim remedies, including freezing injunctions. The work is often complex and high value and involves a high proportion of international work/disputes with an offshore element.
Employment: The employment team deals with the full range of non-contentious employment matters including employee documentation, employee incentives, TUPE issues, redundancies and reorganisations. It also deals with contentious matters including complex employee tribunal claims and High Court matters including team moves and enforcing restrictive covenants. In addition to this the team provides transactional support for the corporate team.
