Firm Overview

In 2003, Bush Seyferth & Kethledge (BSK Law) was founded and formed by Cheryl Bush, Patrick Seyferth and Raymond Kethledge, with offices based in Troy, Michigan. These like-minded litigators strived to build a culture that values performance, not hierarchy – a results-driven “meritocracy.” The founding members committed to creating a firm of best-in-class trial, class action, commercial litigation, and appellate attorneys. The firm quickly expanded adding Richard Paige as a member in 2004. In 2008, Founding Member Raymond Kethledge was nominated to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit with his chambers located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Kethledge was one of the youngest federal appeals court judges ever appointed at the time. The firm name was then changed to BSP Law. In 2023, Cheryl Bush retired after a distinguished career spanning nearly 40 years of exceptional legal service.

BSP’s business and commercial group is particularly known for its strength in business torts, class actions, and complex automotive commercial disputes, particularly those with potential regulatory or product-liability ramifications. The group also has significant practices in healthcare litigation, broker-dealer disputes, and environmental litigation. BSP Law continues to be known as a trial law firm, its partners having taken more than 60 matters to verdict, including three jury trials and two arbitrations in the last two years (winning them all).

Recent highlights from this practice area include: 

BSP Law represents three Veolia North America entities in mass litigation stemming from the Flint water crisis. The VNA entities are alleged to have committed professional negligence in providing certain environmental-related services to the City of Flint. During the same period, a change in water supply led to purported lead contamination in the City’s water system. Acting as Michigan counsel, BSP Law has taken a central role in briefing, development of legal strategy, and other matters in class, Attorney General, and individual litigation in dozens of cases spanning both state and federal courts, including an interlocutory appeal on which BSP Law prevailed on a novel jurisdictional argument. This matter involves hundreds of plaintiffs asserting millions in potential damages. It is also among the most high-profile disputes pending in Michigan, as the Flint water crisis has garnered extensive national media coverage. The matter reflects how BSP Law can defend extensive litigation in multiple forums and work with other firms to achieve an efficient and positive outcome in cases presenting significant reputational and financial risk.
