About
Agnes advokater is a highly specialised law firm working within most areas of environmental law, with a particular focus on water law. The firm has a unique experience in the field of hydro power permitting and facilities, which is (again) a quickly developing area of Swedish law due to a national plan for the permit reassessment of all hydro power facilities the next 20 years. The plan has been implemented by the Government with the double purpose of ensuring compliance with EU-environmental, while also achieving substantial increase in available maximum power and flexibility through the repowering of Sweden’s substantial hydro power assets. These assets are of significant interest in view of EU:s green transition, and the firms client’s has already commenced planning and preparations for permit reassessment and repowering applications due in 2030.
Another main focus of the firms’ practice is the water- and environmental law parts of large infrastructure projects, comprising matters from use of land rights, permits for environmentally hazardous activities and water activities to issues regarding economic compensation for affected third parties and ecological mitigation. The firm is retained as advisor in several of the largest water related infrastructure projects in Sweden. The firm’s lawyers act as both counsel for the state infrastructure operators in the land- and environmental court cases as well as environmental law advisors to the large infrastructure consultancy firms usually retained to manage such projects.
Our advice is based on a solid academical and practical understanding of the Swedish legal framework and the business context in which major industries and infrastructure projects operate. We combine this wider and long-term view with attention to the details of each particular matter and a strategic view on how to reach the clients’ objectives, ensuring that we can offer our clients modern, customised and practical legal advice and that the client obtains and hold the permits they need today as well as those that they may need tomorrow. As a small, flexible and experienced firm with a large network, we believe we have a unique position in the Swedish environmental law area.
The firm have five lawyers, two partners and three associate lawyers, and a CEO.
