SCL represents plaintiffs and defendants in complex antitrust matters across a range of industries. SCL also provides counseling on the full range of antitrust issues, including transactions, business practices, compliance matters and investigations.
Notable results include:
- A $228.5 million settlement on behalf of a class of approximately three million California health insurance premium payers who alleged that Sutter’s anticompetitive practices inflated healthcare costs. SCL attorneys co-led the case and prevailed three times before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
- SCL attorneys lead a broad coalition of the largest merchants in the United States—including Walmart, Amazon, Costco, Starbucks, 7-Eleven, the Gap, and Lowe’s, among others—in spearheading industry-wide objections to a proposed $7.25 billion settlement. Their efforts resulted in the Second Circuit vacating the agreement.
- SCL attorneys serve on the court-appointed plaintiffs’ steering committee in an antitrust class action against the largest owners of local television stations in the U.S., whose combined revenues exceed $28 billion. The team was among the first to file a complaint following the DOJ’s investigation into potential antitrust violations in local television ad sales. To date, plaintiffs have secured settlements totaling $48 million from CBS, Fox, and Cox Media. Litigation remains ongoing.
