Foreign desks

Shin & Kim is a highly experienced team advising on North Korea trade-related issues, and also able to assist companies with the recovery of investments in the event of heightened political tensions. Supports clients on various issues arising from political and military confrontation with North Korea. Its key clients include POSCO and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Notable practitioners

Brandon Ryu (Myong-Hyon Ryu) is particularly focused on cross-border transactions, regularly acting for Korean corporations. Chung-In Anthony Choi is active on a variety of matters and has experience handling pre-IPO sales, equity sales and acquisitions. One client states: "He's able to break down issues and offer straightforward recommendations."

Hae Sung Jeong 's client roster features conglomerates and PE houses. He has expertise in private equity deals, leveraged buyouts and corporate governance. "Hae Sung Jeong is a very attentive professional," notes a client, who explains: "He is very helpful in making decisions because he advises me even on the things I didn't think about."

Jae Young Chang remains active on M&A transactions and is considered a "strong-willed negotiator" by an interviewee. "He understands the intricacies of the complex structures of our transactions," says a client, who stresses his "communication and interpersonal skills that allow him to be persuasive, reassuring and credible."

Joongil Cho focuses on corporate governance matters, M&A and private equity transactions. Clients emphasises his "super fast responses," adding: "It truly makes my life so much easier and it is truly pleasant working with Joongil Cho."

Tong-Gun Lee rises in the rankings due to widespread compliments from clients. He advises on a range of matters including acquisitions and divestments for a range of domestic corporate clients and private equity houses. "Tong-Gun Lee is capable of spotting key legal issues early on throughout the M&A process, and provides effective solutions," lauds a client. Another commentator adds: "He is definitely one of the best lawyers I have worked with," further stating: "He has in-depth understanding of commercial and financial aspects of the deals."

Overview

The M&A Practice Group has extensive experience in advising domestic and foreign companies on various types of mergers and acquisitions transactions. The Group advises on all aspects of M&A matters providing guidance to clients from the earliest stages of negotiations to the final steps of a successful closing. Such full suite of services include advisory services with respect to deal structuring, due diligence, execution of bids and offers, and drafting relevant agreements. The Group also works closely with our Corporate General Practice Group and other practice groups in order to provide a comprehensive and fully integrated range of legal services to our clients prior to and after the closing of transactions.
