Monckton Chambers fields an experienced roster of barristers able to assist clients with all manner of sports law issues. Members are regularly instructed by sports governing bodies, sporting clubs, individuals and sponsors. The set takes on a broad range of cases, from disputes arising in international athletics to horse racing matters. The barristers handle an array of disputes concerning rule breaches, breaches of contract and licensing issues.

Fiona Banks

A noteworthy junior who receives instructions across a variety of sports, including football, rugby, motor racing and cycling. She is particularly well known for acting in contractual disputes, often involving broadcasting and rights issues. She acts for a combination of individuals and teams, national sports governing bodies and broadcasters.

Recent work: Acted for Racing Point in its successful intervention in Alfa Romeo v FIA, a case concerning two time penalties imposed for breach of the FIA's clutch torque demand limits.


Paul Harris QC

He is renowned for his excellent knowledge of regulatory frameworks and the broader sporting environment, as well as his robust advocacy style and strong client service. He is frequently instructed in sport matters involving competition law aspects. He has been active in relation to sports including football, Formula 1 and boxing.

Recent work: Acted for Liverpool Football Club in a dispute with Winlink concerning commission allegedly due in relation to a sponsorship deal.
