Hugh James has a fully multidisciplinary Court of Protection department comprised of not just specialist lawyers, but a qualified social worker and accountant. The team has a significant presence in Cardiff and London.
The department specialises in all matters concerning property and financial affairs for individuals lacking capacity, to include acting as professional property and financial affairs deputy, preparing complex applications to the Court of Protection to include applications relating to statutory wills. Hugh James also has expertise in dealing with contested applications in the Court of Protection, as well as providing assistance to local authorities in applications to the Court relating to the deprivation of liberty safeguards.
The department acts as professional property and financial deputy for in excess of 130 individuals with total assets exceeding £150 million. These are high value, complex cases where significant damages have been awarded.
Andrew Harding leads the department and has assisted individuals with an acquired brain injury for over 20 years. Andrew is often called upon to provide expert witness input to other solicitors and counsel dealing with complex brain injury cases. Andrew established the firm’s specialist Court of Protection unit in 1998. He is Vice Chairman of COPPA Cymru which has recently been established. Andrew is also currently Chairman of Headway Cardiff and is a National Board Member of Headway.
