What the team is known for

Singapore-based team with an especially strong reputation for acting for clients on South-East Asian matters. Coordinates closely with its offices in the USA and Europe to provide a joined-up service. Advises on anti-dumping and countervailing duty matters in the USA, Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand and Mainland China, among other jurisdictions. Regularly acts for clients in the metals, engineering, consumer products and chemical industries and represents governments, as well as private businesses. Increasingly active advising on energy cases. Also able to offer advice regarding sanctions-related matters.

Strengths

A client praises the team's "high level of service," going on to note: "The team is highly responsive and has deep knowledge of the trade defence work; its lawyers understand the accounting and calculation aspects of the work and are able to run simulations on our accounting numbers - other firms will rely on specialist accounts to do such work."

The same client also appreciates that "the partners are intimately involved in each case and do not have layers of associates handling the work, hence they are able to respond quickly to queries that we might have."

Work highlights

Advised the Government of Timor-Leste on its accession to ASEAN.

Notable practitioners

Edmund Sim leads a broad range of anti-dumping investigation work and WTO compliance advice across a broad range of jurisdictions, including Indonesia, Timor-Leste, Mongolia and Taiwan. An impressed client reports: "Ed has deep knowledge and experience in trade defence work, and that is useful as he is able to predict how the investigation will pan out as he has dealt with many of the investigators in the EU and US."

Jay Nee is acknowledged as a solid adviser on South-East Asian trade remedies mandates. Of late, his work has had a notable focus on representing Taiwanese clients in anti-dumping cases.
