How many female lawyers are working across Employment law in the Netherlands?

The upcoming Chambers Europe 2022 guide and legal rankings will see the proportion of female lawyers ranked in the Netherlands Employment table rise to 50% for the first time.

As can be seen from the table below, this has been a gradual increase over the last few years, according to the expert research carried out by the Chambers Europe team.

How is a growing number of female lawyers across the legal market in Europe reflected by Chambers legal rankings?

This gradual increase in the proportion of female lawyers in the legal rankings may in part be a result of the attempt by Chambers researchers to interview more female lawyers during research, and thereby reduce any risk of unconscious bias and help our rankings to reflect the existing legal market more accurately.

Chambers have seen a steady number of female lawyers entering the legal rankings over recent years, but the gender diversity is not merely a result of including a large number of female lawyers in the lower bands.

Although the star individuals in this table are both male lawyers, both band one and band two has an even split of male and female lawyers.

However, it is worth noting that this trend does not extend to the Pensions legal rankings table, which remains male-dominated.

Diversity in lawyers working across the Benelux region in 2022

Furthermore, as can be seen from the table below, it has not yet extended to the rest of the Benelux region in the Chambers coverage of the European legal market:

Ensuring that our rankings accurately reflects the diversity of the legal market within practice areas and removing any risk of unconscious bias remains a key target for Chambers and Partners during our research and will be something we continue to look at in the Europe 2023 guide and beyond.
