Firm Overview:
TAIYO Legal is an independent advisor in all business law matters with a unique focus on CEE and East Asia. Japan Desk, Korea Desk and China Desk of the firm are best known for their unique specialty, namely the combination of East-Asian language / intercultural skills and in-depth knowledge of Austrian corporate law. TAIYO Legal is often seen advising various domestic and foreign clients on restructuring/M&A matters in Austria. Without mentioning, Japanese clients receive advice on corporate law in the Japanese language, Chinese clients receive the advice in Mandarin et cetera.The law firm established in 2017. Although it is a relatively young firm in the market, it has built up a solid reputation in the Austrian corporate law sector over the years.

Main Areas of Practice:
The main focus is on banking and finance on one hand and cross-border transactions between Central Europe and East Asia on the other. TAIYO Legal’s expertise covers also the advisory of European as well as Japanese financial service providers in different areas of banking and finance law. At the same time, it is the leading law firm in the advisory of Japanese clients with their business in Austria and European clients with their business with Japanese business partners.

TAIYO Legal is drafting and negotiating documentation for share and asset deals, conducting corporate and other due diligence, advising on Green field projects, and advising on corporate restructuring, most often with cross-border dimensions. It acts as a „One-stop-shop” for its clients meaning that it does not just provide legal services, but also intermediates between the client and third-party service providers e.g., tax advisors, CPAs, translators and notaries public. Therefore, the clients only need to communicate with TAIYO Legal to complete any given set of tasks.

International Work:
One example of TAIYO Legal's work would be advising Hyundai Transys on its entry to the Austrian market. The entry of one of the world's largest automobile manufacturing groups, which aims to develop new technologies together with its Austrian business partners, will have a major impact on the Austrian automobile industry and market. TAIYO Legal, as a lead counsel, is advising Hyundai Transys on – among others- corporate law and immigration law.

Another example would be Asahi Shimbun. It is one of the biggest newspaper companies in Japan. TAIYO Legal is advising on its corporate restructuring within Europe. This corporate restructuring is a measure to absorb the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic to its European businesses and to minimise the economic damage from it. It is advising Asahi Shimbun in particular on divestment in Austria. The law firm also works closely with the Austrian public business agencies such as ABA, Advantage Austria, Vienna Business Agency, as well as the East Asian public business agencies such as JETRO and Kotra.

The one thing that really sets TAIYO Legal apart from their competitors is the ability to provide services to its Japanese clients like a Japanese law firm, to its Chinese clients like Chinese law firm. This includes not just correspondence in the respective mother tongue. Contracts and other documents are often drafted bilingually and help the client to save time. Another point is that it tries to be a first-class legal adviser, but at the same time, be an “easy to approach” adviser. This way TAIYO Legal's clients benefit from both first-class legal advice comparable to that of larger law firms and the „proximity to advisers” that larger firms cannot offer. It provides its clients with the legal advice they need, as soon as and as often as they need it.

So far, TAIYO Legal has only one office in Vienna, the capital of Austria. In summer 2022 the firm moved to a larger office due to the expansion of its firm's business and the consequent increase in staff members. Its new office is located in the 1st district of Vienna, the heart of Austrian's economic and cultural activity and thus, the most prestigious area in Austria.
