Employment Law - Experienced employment lawyers able to provide specialist assistance with both tribunal matters and with drafting or developing employment terms and other documentation.
Are pleased to act for both businesses and individuals in relation to all employment law issues. Commonly deal with the negotiation of severance packages for senior executives, dismissal disputes in the employment tribunal or Royal Court, and contentious issues relating to post termination restrictive covenants. Disciplinary and grievance processes, discrimination issues, and redundancy are frequent issues which are dealt with on behalf of their clients.

Dealing with breach of trust claims, retirement and removal of trustees and indemnities, beneficiary disputes, making applications to the Court for directions, and all aspects of non-contentious advisory and drafting work.
Also deal with multi-jurisdictional trust issues, including enforcement of foreign judgments against Jersey trusts, and dealing with Jersey trusts’ administration of assets abroad. Priding themselves on their ability to lead and co-ordinate international trust litigation in multiple jurisdictions efficiently, but are equally happy to be part of a team led by lawyers in other jurisdictions.
Commercial, Regulatory & Competition Law - Dealing with contentious and non-contentious commercial, corporate and regulatory legal advice, including in relation to funds, banking, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions (M&A’s), business advice and agreements.
Regulatory offering includes advice on financial services regulation and competition law, regularly liaise with the Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC), Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority (JCRA) and Channel Islands Regulatory Authority (CICRA).
Regarding competition law, they have a great deal of experience dealing with investigations by CICRA, as well as M&A applications. Having advised numerous companies on many markets, including in relation to fuel, retail, shipping, and food. They understand the crucial importance of the correct market definition in dealing with competition law issues, and think outside the box on identifying arguments to persuade the authorities, working with trusted external experts where necessary.
Construction - In construction matters they understand the process and have acted for large construction companies, professionals (architects, surveyors, trades etc) and property owners. Modern construction is complex and requires teamwork. Jersey is a small place and relationships are long-term. When it goes wrong it needs a pragmatic, common sense approach where the lawyers can work with you to find solutions, not create more problems. They are ready to help and be part of your team.

Notary - In addition to his work as an Advocate of the Royal Court Paul Matthams also practises as a Notary Public.
Notaries are primarily concerned with the authentication and certification of signatures, authority and capacity relating to documents for use outside the Island of Jersey, including powers of attorney and formal sworn statements.
If the country where the document is to be used so requires they can also arrange for a stamped official certificate known as an ‘apostille’ to be issued by the Jersey Government’s Legalisation Office.
