Rhoades McKee’s Commercial and Business Litigation Group was once again recognized by Chambers and Partners and US News Best Lawyers as one of the best in Michigan and the metropolitan Grand Rapids area. Many of our lawyers were also individually recognized by Michigan Super Lawyers®, Best Lawyers of America®, and Grand Rapids Magazine Top Lawyers for their litigation work. We also continue to stay up-to-date on the latest legal developments and are dedicated to providing helpful advice to our clients. For example, we are known for work in the following areas:
- Valuation Expertise: We are routinely retained by business owners to address complicated issues concerning ownership disputes. Those engagements regularly require us to work closely with valuation professionals to know and understand the key drivers of value for each business. Our attorneys have specialized training in business valuation, which allows us to work efficiently and effectively to receive the best possible outcome for our clients, whether they are on the side looking to buy out the other owner or sell.
- Shareholder/Member Oppression: Coinciding with the above, we also regularly represent individuals subjected to unfair and oppressive treatment by controlling shareholders, members, or managers. These minority owners often experience a majority owner refusing to provide information, failing to pay proper dividends or distributions, or otherwise unfairly treating the minority owner. With our knowledge of finance, corporate governance rules, and statutory/case law in this area, we successfully litigate and resolve these owner disputes through mediation or litigation.
- Contract Disputes: We assist small, medium, and large corporations with all manner of contract disputes, including those involving non-competition agreements, supplier disputes, disputes under the Uniform Commercial Code, construction contract disputes, and real estate contract disputes.
- No-Fault/Provider Litigation: We represent healthcare companies seeking payment for their services under the Michigan No-Fault Act. Often these matters involve analysis of not only the key statutory law, but also complex areas concerning Medicare, contract law, and medical records and terminology.
