PRINCIPAL AREAS OF WORK

Antitrust/Competition: Morgan Lewis has advised on the most high-profile competition disputes in the English courts. Antitrust/competition lawyers in London advise clients globally in matters involving threatened and actual cartel enforcement, abuse of dominance cases, follow-on and other antitrust litigation and compliance. Morgan Lewis is singled out by clients to represent them in matters before antitrust/competition enforcement agencies and courts in the UK, EU, and globally. They also advise clients on antitrust/competition issues in significant transactions, including EU filings and multi-jurisdictional national filings.

Banking & Finance: The London finance team advises on complex cross-border finance transactions globally. Clients include financial institutions, funds, corporations, sponsors, and governments, in relation to financial transactions in emerging markets, leveraged finance, funds finance, restructurings, asset-based lending, capital markets, derivatives and project finance. The team has been involved in many new structures, products, and asset classes. The team has advised on the financing of public and private M&A transactions, including leveraged buyouts, and assist clients in areas ranging from conventional bank financings and debt capital markets to highly structured financial transactions—syndicated and bilateral, secured and unsecured.

Corporate & Business Transactions: The London team focuses on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, fund formation, finance, restructuring, securities, emerging business and technology, outsourcing, energy transactions, and tax matters in transactions in the UK and globally. Lawyers in the team advise investment banks, private equity and investment funds, investors, credit card and payment providers, counsel start-up clients, major IT providers and international corporations across many industries including internet, fintech and media, and are active in advising on transactions on the life sciences and energy sectors.

Intellectual Property: The London intellectual property team represents and advises global clients on matters such as trademark and design prosecution, general trademark design, and the selection, prosecution, protection, and enforcement of trademarks. Our IP team provides strategic advice to some of the world’s most innovative and widely recognised companies, managing trade mark and design prosecution in more than 129 international jurisdictions (excluding the US), and advising on every stage of the development and life cycle of rights from creation through to enforcement. With one of the largest IP practices internationally, our global network allows us to partner with colleagues in countries around the world, and also to advise clients in collaboration with our litigation, regulatory, and transactional practices.

Investment Management: The London investment management team provides a full range of transactional and regulatory advice and assistance to clients in the global investment management industry. It advises fund sponsors and managers, institutional investors on structuring, investments and acquisitions, international private equity, hedge, and other private investor funds. The team advises clients in interdisciplinary areas, including tax, regulation and compliance, executive compensation, corporate governance, and litigation.

Labour & Employment: The London employment team advises global companies on matters such as employment issues in M&A transactions, investigations, disputes and litigation before employment tribunals and courts, union issues, regulation and compliance, and workplace culture and related training. Employment lawyers advise global clients on high-value discrimination claims, team move and restrictive covenant cases in the English High Court. They support clients through complex disciplinary, whistleblowing and regulatory investigations and proceedings, and have experience in related employment tribunal and high court litigation. The team provides strategic advice to employers on trade union and collective consultation issues, including on a cross-jurisdictional basis. Led from London, the team provides multinational clients with a ‘one-stop-shop’ approach to assist them in dealing with their increasingly mobile and diverse workforces. The team also advises global businesses in connection with their UK immigration matters.

Life Sciences: The London team is a full-practice life sciences team that serves clients across the full product life cycle and in all aspects of the life sciences sector. It advises on collaborations as well as licensing and corporate and venture capital deals. Regulatory capability is a core strength of the practice—from obtaining product approvals to teaming with lawyers in other practice areas on global transactions and litigation.

Litigation, Regulation & Investigations: The London office handles a wide range of complex international commercial disputes, international arbitration, and regulatory and criminal investigations. With particularly strong experience in the energy and financial services industries, the London office represents clients in disputes court and arbitration proceedings and before UK, US, and global regulators, including in settlement, remediation, and compliance.
