Firm Overview:
Bristows is the world’s leading specialist law firm for clients that innovate. The firm is a European-headquartered hub for litigation, transactions and advice throughout the world. It helps clients grow in life sciences, technology and other dynamic sectors. It provides advice on all their legal matters and is proud to be different. Bristows has an eclectic mix of inquisitive thinkers who are fascinated by the law surrounding their clients’ sector. Many of them have science and technology backgrounds or have worked in the industry. It means they are on the same wavelength and understand what makes their clients’ business tick. Many of the firm’s clients are international and its work with them crosses different jurisdictions. Bristows has remained fiercely independent since it first began in 1837 and is able to maintain a network of leading lawyers and specialists around the world. The firm is free to partner with the best people for each client need in any jurisdiction and build the right team of lawyers in the right locations. Bristows lawyers don’t work to billing targets. This ensures clients get the right combination of experts working as one, who take the time to share their different perspectives and find the right answer, no matter how difficult or novel the question is. It’s a rare approach that defines the quality of Bristows’ advice.

Principal Areas Of Work:
Bristows has always been at the forefront of change. From patenting the first electrical telegraph to launching the UK’s genome sequencing project, it has been helping clients who create and embrace new technologies and ideas. The firm focuses on dynamic, IP-rich sectors and has the expertise to solve a broad range of litigation, transactional, and advisory challenges. It has a true cross-disciplinary practice encompassing its renowned IP, competition, regulatory, corporate and commercial, dispute resolution, IT and data protection teams. The strength of each individual practice complements the others to provide a fully integrated and comprehensive service.

Recruitment:
Bristows likes to recruit inquisitive minds, many with science and technology backgrounds. It is actively looking to recruit trainees with a variety of academic backgrounds – scientists and engineers, and also trainees who have studied law, humanities and arts. Its lawyers live and breath their clients’ business, can talk the same language and have a keen eye on the future. Many trainees and associates go on secondment at client companies, including Google, McDonald’s, Capgemini, AstraZeneca, Samsung, Novartis, Sony and WPP.
