Profile
With an international team hailing from four continents and a diverse range of languages, Barakat + Bossa (“B2B”) has a strong reputation in complex business litigation that stems from three key factors:
- Our experience in the courtroom
- Our participation in drafting of related legislation, and
- Our commitment to continuous training
The lawyers at B2B are trial ready and trial tested, starting with Brian Barakat. Mr. Barakat was an economic crimes prosecutor at the inception of his career gathering over 50 trials in his just his first few years of practice. This included complex financial scams and fraud. He is now one of only 225 lawyers Board Certified in Business Litigation in the State of Florida. Fellow partner, Giacomo Bossa is Board Certified by The Florida Bar in two areas of law, Business Litigation and Real Estate.
Meanwhile, each of the other lawyers in the firm are encouraged, trained, and tested in the court room. Every attorney in the firm, down to our youngest associate, has been to and won a trial. This is thanks to, in part, our vigorous training system. B2B trains its lawyers and staff to protect their clients and win their disputes. Partners, senior associates, and guest speakers offer guidance to each other and to younger lawyers, clerks and staff members on the law, litigation technique, ethics, and technology. Jocelyne Macelloni, a partner in the firm, is also a Board-Certified Business Litigator and is a professor of Civil Pretrial Litigation Skills at the Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law and she leads our weekly, firm-wide trainings.
In addition, the firm is proud of its Incubator Program. Through the B2B Incubator Program, the firm trains law students and young lawyers on litigation and trial skills. This program prepares them so that they are ready to enter the court room and try their first case. With a systematic progression of instruction and practical application, every first-year associate hired by the firm since the inception of the program has tried and won a trial in that first year.
Finally, the partners in the firm are committed to drafting the legislation that directly impacts our case. Mr. Bossa and Mr. Barakat served on the Florida Bar Business Law Section Committee that completely rewrote the 600-page Florida Corporations Act. That act was passed in 2019. Mr. Bossa recently chaired the committee that drafted and passed the revised Florida Statutes Chapter 48 governing service of process. Mr. Barakat chairs the committee responsible for presently evaluating changes to Florida Statute § 542.335, which governs Restrictive Covenants. Jocelyne Macelloni has served on the committee for redrafting Florida’s Rules of Civil Procedure.
All of these items combine to form a powerful combination of experience, knowledge and depth of bench in complex business litigation.
B2B recognizes the importance of collaborating with like-minded professionals worldwide and is a proud member in the Alliott Global Alliance , a Chambers ranked, prestigious network of 220 member firms in some 100 countries.
