Allen & Overy’s dedicated Latin America team spans across our enviable network of over 40 offices in more than 30 countries and covers not only banking and projects, but also lends its strength to our global corporate/M&A practices as well as our global capital markets and international dispute resolution practices, which are increasingly becoming more active in the region. Our larger network of offices also regularly work together with us to deliver to our clients in Latin America, or our clients looking to invest in Latin America, seamless, accurate, culturally relevant advice in a variety of languages. We speak the languages of our clients, we live in their markets, and we care about the work we do with them in Latin America.
Our practice focuses on finance, including banking, projects, capital markets, derivatives, securitizations and structured finance more generally, as well as corporate matters, such as mergers and acquisitions, restructurings and insolvencies. We advise our clients on transactions involving a variety of key sectors, including energy, oil and gas, other natural resources and renewable energy, infrastructure and telecommunications (including satellites). On the dispute resolution side, we focus on commercial and foreign investment arbitration as well as complex transnational litigation.
Our Latin America practice is staffed with attorneys who have deep experience across a number of practice areas, which means our Spanish and Portuguese-speaking attorneys advise clients in real-time with real experience gained on truly significant transactions in the Latin American region (as set out below). This means our experience is more on point to Latin America than many other firms and our advice is relevantly informed by our on-the-ground experience in the region. Having this kind of first-hand exposure to the full range of financings in Latin America means our lawyers always have their fingers on the pulse of the market, and leverage that advantage for our clients.
The breadth of our practice reflects the needs of our client base, which includes major financial institutions, sovereign entities and regional and multinational corporations in Latin America, the United States, Europe and Asia. Our multi‐disciplinary and multi‐jurisdictional capability ideally positions us to represent our clients in major cross‐border investments and finance transactions in Latin America, as well as in major international disputes involving Latin American parties or that arise from transactions in the region. We also have significant work in Washington, D.C. focusing on Latin America out of our Agency practice, which also forms an integral part of our Latin America practice.
