Xiaolu Cheng

Attorney CHENG is primarily known for her criminal defence practice, has also distinguished herself in civil and commercial dispute resolution. She also serves as a member of the China Association of Criminal Procedure Law, the Director of the Juvenile Prosecution Committee of the China Institute of Prosecution, and the Deputy Secretary General of the Criminal Procedure Professional Committee of the Beijing Lawyers Association. Last year, she was newly appointed as a special lawyer supervisor of the National Detention Centre of the Ministry of Public Security, a member of the 10th Criminal Professional Committee of the National Lawyers Association, and an expert consultant of the Zhuhai Enterprise Compliance Promotion Association (for 2023 to 2027), making outstanding contributions in the areas of lawyers’ meetings, criminal justice work, and the standardisation, systematisation, and institutionalisation of enterprise compliance.

Since practicing for nearly 10 years, attorney CHENG has gained wide recognition from the industry for her profound defence ability and responsible work attitude. She has been selected as one of the 2020 LEGALBAND Special Issue: China Top 15 Lawyers - Commercial Crime & Criminal Compliance, and has been nominated the “Excellent Young People in Legal Field” by the Beijing Lawyers Association and awarded the “First Batch of 2020 Beijing Professional Criminal Lawyers” by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Justice. And she has been selected as one of the Foreign-Related Lawyer Talent Pools in “Transnational Crime and Fugitive Recovery, International Trade” category. She was also awarded the title of “2019 Outstanding Criminal Defence Lawyer” by Law Yearbook of China, and was widely praised.

Attorney CHENG obtained her Master and Doctor degrees in Criminal Procedure Law from Renmin University of China, which is a well-known law school in China. It has been a long time for her in criminal defence practice. Before becoming a full-time lawyer, she worked as a prosecutor in the People’s Procuratorate of Haidian District, Beijing Municipality, and then as a prosecutor in the People’s Procuratorate of Beijing Municipality, with nearly 10 years of judicial experience as a public prosecutor.
