Volker Lücke

In 2019, Volker has opened the Clyde & Co Hamburg office as a founding partner with a team of three fellow partners and 15 associates.

Qualified as a German lawyer (Rechtsanwalt), he also holds a Master’s degree in shipping law from the University of Cape Town and a doctorate degree from the University of Münster. Volker lectures on shipping law at the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg and marine litigation and arbitration at the University of Applied Sciences in Bremen.

He leads the firm’s German transport and marine insurance departments. His practice covers the areas of shipping/transport and insurance law. His litigation practice covers matters relating to dry shipping, admiralty, transport, marine insurance and yachting. He specializes in complex international litigation and arbitration matters such as large scale cargo claims and transport issues.

Volker co-heads the firm’s German yacht and superyacht practice handling both contentious and non-contentious yachting matters.

His leading German marine insurance practice handles a variety of sizeable marine insurance cases predominately acting for German and international underwriters / the Lloyd's market.

Having spent a considerable time of his legal training in South Africa, the UK, Portugal and Brazil, Volker speaks Portuguese, German and English.
