Tony Fisher undertakes company/commercial, M&E and partnership work, advises charities and educational establishments, and is engaged in the firm’s international practice. He has wide experience of corporate re-structuring, and drafting and negotiating commercial contracts. In January 2018 Tony was awarded the Modern Law Lifetime Achievement Award 2017/18 for his work in the profession and in October 2018 received an honorary degree of Doctor of the University of Essex – D.U. Essex (Hons). For the last three years he has been the UK representative on the Committee of Experts for the Protection of Lawyers at the Council of Europe. The committee has drafted a new European Convention on the Protection of Lawyers which it is hoped will be opened for ratification in early 2025.
Tony Fisher is the Executive Chair of the firm. He has over 40 years’ experience in private legal practice. He has an MBA in Legal Practice and is a member of various trade and business organisations. Tony is also a CEDR accredited mediator.
Tony has been a Fellow of the Human Rights Centre at the University of Essex and is acting chair of the Human Rights Committee of the Law Society of England and Wales. He is also a member of the International Committee, which oversees the international work of the Law Society, and of the Access to Justice Committee.
Away from FJG Tony undertakes a lot of voluntary human rights work and enjoys wine, new technology, interesting old cars, photography, travel and spending time with his family. He is married to Liz who is director of the Law Clinic at the University of Essex and has four sons, three stepdaughters and a tortoise called Aubrey.
