Tom Friel has 40 years of experience as a trial lawyer specializing in intellectual property matters, in particular licensing, patent, antitrust, trade secret, trademark, copyright, and other complex cases. He has tried many cases in courts across the United States and in the ITC, representing companies from all over the world, universities, and inventors. His practice has focused on a range of industries, including technology, electronics, software, gaming, semiconductors (design, fabrication, and packaging), industrial equipment, and transportation to agriculture, life sciences, medical devices, and drugs. He has represented clients in federal and state court litigations, judicial and private arbitrations, International Trade Commission (ITC) investigations, and mediations.

Mr. Friel speaks frequently on patent issues. He serves on the Advisory Committee for the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology, a research center at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, and has spoken at its events.
