Thomas Brownrigg is a Partner at Goodman Ray and a solicitor, collaborative lawyer and a mediator within our team in London and Brighton. He is recognised for his work as a solicitor and a mediator specialising in high net worth financial and children issues arising from separation in a number of legal directories, including Chambers High Net Worth, Legal 500 and Spears.
He specialises in issues arising from the breakdown of relationships between married couples, civil partners and unmarried couples. These include the division of individual or joint assets, the living situation of any children, and divorce proceedings. He regularly deals with international issues and high net worth clients.
Tom advises a variety of individuals on financial matters, including often representing client with a high earning capacity and high net worth. He regularly works on cases where there are issues surrounding property portfolios, business interests, asset protection, inheritance, trusts or overseas assets. Many of his cases have a cross-border element. In particular, thanks to speaking Spanish, Tom is adept at handling cases with Spanish assets or Spanish speaking clients.
Tom regularly deals with children disputes between parents or other family members. Those case include assisting parents with finding solutions where there may be high conflict, where there may be complex issues such as domestic abuse or neurodiversity, when one parent may wish to leave England or Wales, or where it involves working with the child directly in mediation.
Tom focuses on resolving matters without going to Court wherever possible and establishing a dialogue between parties. He specialises in a number of non-court dispute-resolution options to offer the best option for his clients.
Tom has been accredited by the Family Mediation Council to undertake All Issues Mediation and is trained in hybrid mediation. He is also a child-inclusive mediator, regularly meeting with children too in the mediation process. He conducts mediation for a variety of different individuals regarding both financial and children issues, and is a big proponent of the mediation process for resolving family disputes. He conducts MIAMs as well as mediations.
He is also a member of Resolution and a Resolution Accredited Specialist in Complex Financial and Property Matters for high-income households or where there are substantial assets. This is in addition to being accredited for children law where there are disputes between parents or relatives. He is also a trained collaborative lawyer, which involves working closely with both parties and their lawyers to resolve issues. Tom is also an experienced advocate, and often appears on behalf of his clients in court.
