Susan E. Brune is the Founder and Principal of Brune Law P.C., a New York-based litigation boutique focused on white-collar criminal defense, SEC enforcement matters, government investigations, regulatory proceedings, internal investigations, and complex commercial litigation.
Brune is widely recognized for resolving investigations before charges are filed and for successfully defending clients in trial and enforcement proceedings. Her notable representations include securing a complete victory for a private equity investor in an SEC enforcement action and obtaining the acquittal of a former Bear Stearns hedge fund manager in federal court.
She has been repeatedly recognized by Chambers USA for Litigation: White-Collar Crime & Government Investigations and has received Chambers' "Star Individual" designation. She is also recognized for excellence in complex commercial litigation and crisis management.
Before founding Brune Law P.C., Brune served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York and clerked for Judge Whitman Knapp of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Brune earned her J.D., with honors, from Harvard Law School, an M.A. from Columbia University, and a B.A. from the University of Michigan Honors College.
A former Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Brune represents executives, investment professionals, public and private companies, boards of directors, and individuals facing government scrutiny, enforcement actions, and high-stakes business disputes.
For more than three decades, she has handled matters involving securities fraud, insider trading, accounting and financial reporting issues, investment management, corporate governance, fiduciary duties, compliance failures, and parallel civil, criminal, and regulatory investigations. Her practice includes representation before the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), federal and state prosecutors, and financial regulators.
