Stephen is recognised for his ability to steer the right course in the toughest cases. Having led the team that achieved a comprehensive win for General Electric (GE) against Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) in a patent dispute relating to GE's latest generation of Haliade-X wind turbines to be installed at Dogger Bank off the UK coast – Stephen’s team also won UK Impact Case of the Year award at the Managing IP Awards 2023 (GE v Siemens) and in 2024 (Rhodia v Neo). He also continues to pursue a damages claim for chemicals giant Solvay (Rhodia) in its patent action relating to automotive exhaust catalysts following the court of appeal victory on validity and infringement.
Stephen is a trusted pair of hands with business-critical litigation cases involving clients in the life sciences sector and is in high demand with pharmaceutical companies. For example his advice to Merck Sharp and Dohme (MSD) in its dispute with Halozyme in relation to genetically engineered enzymes; and Moderna in relation to its dispute with GSK over mRNA technology.
In the tech sector, has advised Astronics Advanced Electronic Systems Corp. (Astronics AES), an industry leading manufacturer of aircraft electrical power systems, in a UK patent infringement action brought against it by Lufthansa Technik.
