Career

Sebastian is the Managing Partner of Colbs Estudio Legal. From his position he leads the Real Estate, Corporate, Banking and Finance practices of the firm.

Sebastian advises local and international private and institutional investors, development companies, private wealth funds and also serves as local liaison for international law firms which have clients with interests in Costa Rica. Within his real estate practice, he has developed a unique skill in build-to-suit and sale and lease back transactions, long term leases, and recording and managing residential and touristic developments plus a specialized practice of free trade zones.

Within the Banking and Finance sector the firm is at the forefront of Fintech companies’ advisory, from the establishment of Fintech companies to the management of their day-to-day operations.

Sebastian and his firm set themselves apart from the rest of the pack by offering “red carpet” highly personalized treatment to all their clients, in which a partner always leads all transactions. This is a non-negotiable trait that is embedded in the culture of the firm.

Sebastian serves as Director at the Costa Rican British Chamber of Commerce (Britcham), President of the Chevening Scholarships Alumni Association, and Chair of the Costa Rica Chapter for the IAPP (International Association of Privacy Professionals) and has been appointed as the Honorary Personal Advisor to Her Majesty's Ambassador in Costa Rica by the British Ambassador.

His academic credentials include a Business Bachelor Degree at ULACIT, a Juris Doctor Degree from University of Costa Rica, a Tax Specialization from the Instituto Tecnologico de Costa Rica, and a Master’s in Law Degree (LL.M.) in Corporate Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

In his free time Sebastian is a highly accomplished tennis player, recently representing Costa Rica in international tournaments for the category of players over 40 years of age. He has 2 sons and is married to a highly successful IP attorney.
