Scott Lerner, a partner in Dechert’s Washington, D.C. office, focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, class actions, investigations and corporate crises, with a particular emphasis on sports-related disputes.
Formerly the head of the U.S. Sports and Gaming practice at his prior firm, Mr. Lerner has advised a wide range of clients across the sports industry, including professional athletes and coaches, sports franchises, team owners, event organizers, apparel companies, sports charities, unions and iGaming organizations. He also regularly represents media companies in disputes involving intellectual property rights. Before entering private practice, Mr. Lerner worked at the National Football League (NFL) Players Association, where he served as part of the legal team that led the union through the NFL's 2011 lockout and historic decertification, and he worked extensively on developing return-to-play guidelines for players who suffered traumatic brain injuries.
