Career

An attorney at Ayres Britto Legal Consultancy and Advocacy, specializing in contentious matters before the Superior Courts. Awarded the Vice-Chancellor Fellowship for post-doctoral studies at the University of Pretoria in 2015. Holds a Doctorate in Constitutional Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (2013) with a thesis titled "Right to Happiness: History, Theory, Positivation, and Jurisdiction." Completed a Master's in Constitutional Law (2008) at the Brasiliense Institute of Public Law with a dissertation titled "Activism or Arrogance? The Other Side of the Supreme Federal Court."

Specialized in Tax Law at the UDF Centre for Higher Education (2008) under the guidance of Arnaldo Sampaio de Moraes Godoy, focusing on the theme of "Prospective Doctrine Denying Rights to Taxpayers." Author of the book "Right to Happiness" (2017), which has been used by the Supreme Federal Court in the realization of fundamental rights for minority groups in society, as seen in cases such as ADO 26 and MI 4733, addressing the omission of the National Congress in not enacting laws criminalizing homophobia and transphobia; ADI 4275 and RE 670422, dealing with the possibility of changing gender on the civil registry without undergoing gender reassignment surgery; ADC 41, which declared the constitutionality of the Quota Law in the federal public service; and ADI 4277 and ADPF 132, recognizing same-sex unions. Also authored works such as "The Citizen Constitution and Tax Law: Studies in Honour of Minister Carlos Ayres Britto" (2019); "Katiba - Living the Kenyan Dream: Constitutionalism of Hope in Contemporary Africa" (2013); "Modern Constitutional Review" (2010); "Activism or Arrogance? The Other Side of the Supreme Federal Court" (2010), with a preface by Minister Gilmar Ferreira Mendes of the Supreme Federal Court; "Turn the Game Around!" (2004); and translated Albie Sachs' work "Life and Law - A Strange Alchemy" into Portuguese. Served as an advisor at the South African Constitutional Court and chaired the Committee for Relations with South Africa at the Federal Council of the Brazilian Bar Association, being awarded the Raymundo Faoro Advocacy Merit Trophy.

From 2018 to 2019, served as an advisor to the Vice President of the Supreme Court of Israel. A Consulting Member of the Constitutional Affairs Commission at the Federal Council of the Brazilian Bar Association and a member of the International Association of Constitutional Law. A columnist for Migalhas: Constitutional Conversation since 2016.
