Sam heads up Lee & Thompson's Theatre & Live Events practice, which has been a key growth area for the firm in recent years. He is the client lead for many of our performing arts clients, including some of the leading production companies operating in the West End, Broadway and across the growing Immersive Experiences sector.
He also advises clients from other areas of the firm on theatre matters. This includes negotiating composer and lyricist agreements for our music clients contributing to musicals, negotiating talent contracts for Film & TV actors treading the boards, advising authors and publishers with stage adaptations, and assisting brands and other rightsholders with licences for immersive experiences.
He maintains relationships with the top accountancy firms to assist producers with Theatre Tax Relief applications and tax structuring for hit shows (including lending against TTR), and is a go-to contact for some of the leading theatre law firms in the US. He is also a contributor to the League of Independent Producers, a trade association representing the interests of UK theatre producers, and a partner of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
