Ruth Annand is Emeritus Professor of Law at the University of Bristol and Senior Associate Solicitor with Humphreys & Co. (first joined 1987). She has upwards 30 years experience in advising clients on all aspects of Intellectual Property in the UK and internationally.
She served as an Appointed Person under the UK Trade Marks Act 1994 for over 20 years judging appeals from decisions of the Trade Marks Registrar. She has been active for many years in the International Trademark Association (INTA) having sat on the INTA Board of Directors and chaired/vice chaired various INTA committees. She is currently a member of the INTA Publications Committee. She co-founded with the Intellectual Property Lawyers Association (IPLA) and ran the University of Bristol's prestigious Diploma in Intellectual Property Law and Practice.
She received the INTA President's Award for service to the global trademark and related Intellectual Property community in 2010. In 2017, she was awarded the CBE for services to Intellectual Property.
She qualified as a solicitor with Coward Chance in 1974.
