Rory is a barrister of 15 years’ standing and is also authorised to conduct litigation. He works across the firm’s core practice areas advising on fraud, unfair prejudice, contractual disputes, regulatory investigations (including for misconduct) and complex cross-border commercial litigation (often with a regulatory angle). Rory has particular expertise in relation to compliance issues, including professional standards, domestic and international sanctions and anti-money laundering.
Prior to joining Astraea, Rory was a Legal Director at a well-known national firm.
In Legal 500, 2026, Rory is a Recommended Lawyer for Commercial Litigation (mid-market). He is also ranked as a Leading Associate for Professional Discipline.

Rory has a keen interest in pro bono work. He is on the Pro Bono Recognition List 2024 and has responsibility for the firm’s pro bono policy. He forms part of the Astraea team instructed to act by representatives of the Northern Ireland Veterans Movement in the case of Secretary of State for Northern Ireland v Martina Dillon & Others (UKSC/2025/0013).
Outside of work, Rory enjoys music, theatre and travel.
- Acting for a defendant to a US$6million claim for unlawful means conspiracy and fraudulent misrepresentation and coordinating proceedings in relation to collateral criminal allegations in the United States in respect of an alleged US$1billion fraud.
- Defending father and son respondents to a worldwide freezing order and collateral proceedings brought by their estranged wife/ mother alleging misappropriation of millions of dollars from her inheritance.
- Acts regularly for the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) in relation to their prosecutions of regulated firms and individuals. Assisted James Ramsden KC with the prosecution of Dentons UK & Middle East LLP for breaches of the Money Laundering Regulations 2007.
- Acting for the Northern Ireland Veterans Movement, on a pro bono basis, in the Supreme Court case of Secretary of State for Northern Ireland v Martina Dillon & Others (UKSC/2025/0013). The case concerns the prosecution of soldiers who served in Northern Ireland during Operation Banner between 1969-1999; it has potentially profound implications for the Peace Process in Northern Ireland and constitutionally post-Brexit.
